4 C's OF EDUCATION Here in the art room, students have the opportunity to not only create art but learn life skills such as communicating, collaborating with peers, and using critical thinking skills. We focus on thinking, creating, and growing like artists by using the Artistic Process and Artistic Behaviors. This framework is guided by the Studio Habits of Mind and national and state visual art standards.
Students learn to guide and challenge their learning, experiment with art materials/tools/supplies, and make original works of art. You may notice a vast array of student work and media. This is because we are a choice-based art education classroom (working towards abundant choice). In other words, students slowly make more choices in their learning, such as subject matter, materials, and techniques as they progress through 5th + 6th grade art. We align all of our art-making with the Studio Habits of Mind, and National and MN Visual Art standards.
ART + DISTANCE LEARNING
WOW! JUST WOW! We are so proud of our students and all their hard work while distance learning. 5th and 6th grade artists didn't hold back on creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills! They stepped up to the challenges and lessons presented in weekly choice boards to help guide their learning, art-making, and artistic process. What are choice boards? Choice boards are made up of a variety of options (sometimes inspired by Howard Gardner's multiple intelligences) to provide students choice- to help guide their learning. Each option presented in a choice board evolves around the same goal(s) and outcomes. It is up to the student to choose how they will achieve their goal(s). Below are a few highlights from our 5th and 6th grade artists!
